Leicester Geriatric Emergency Medicine Course

The Leics GEM course is designed for all clinicians involved in the care of older people with frailty and urgent care needs. 

The course can either be delivered as a singular whole day session, or divided across two half-days.

- COMMENCE or 1st Half-Day- 


• Frailty & CGA: screen and score, utility, challenge
• Person-centred care: outcomes, shared decision making
• Syncope and falls: assessment, management, pitfalls
• Injuries and fractures: polytrauma, soft tissue injury, spinal trauma, pitfalls
• Continence (urine and bowel): assessment, management, pitfalls
• Sepsis and infections: assessment, management, pitfalls
• Delirium: assessment, management, pitfalls


- BREAK or 2nd Half-Day -


• Polypharmacy: case discussions, tools
• Futility and EoL care: case discussions, principles
• Multidisciplinary teams & CGA: roles, effectiveness
• Leading & improving: process, measurement
• Reflections & feedback
